Ottawa Student Exchange

STS Scholarships

STS awards a minimum of $10,000 in scholarship per calendar year to all successful students who meet the following criteria:

  • Above average academic standard
  • Open, friendly, highly motivated and achievement oriented
  • Ability to be an outstanding ambassador for Canada and STS
  • Aged between 14 and 18 at the time of departure
  • Attending a Canadian high school the full year before departure

To help the STS judges decide which candidates will receive one of STS scholarships, all applicants must follow the steps bellow.

  1. Write an essay about your motivation for this exchange (essay must be 500-550 words)
  2. Get as many letters of endorsement as possible from your high school staff (teachers, guidance counselor, principal) on official school letterhead.
  3. And last but not least, STS' final decision will rely on the video you will submit to the STS judges. This 5-minute video can be about either topic below:
    • A typical day in the life of a Canadian high school student
    • The ideal personality of an exchange student

Be imaginative, creative and fun! The deadline for submitting your scholarship application along with your video is April 30th for all departure and October 31st for January departure. Please note that your video may be used on our website.

The STS Scholarship Judges Council can be composed of former host families, former exchange students and STS Representatives. The Judges will review every file individually and their decision will be given in June for fall departures and in December for January departures. Their decision is final.

The whole STS team wishes you the very best and is looking forward to having you onboard!
