STS welcomes exchange
students from around the world who want to come to Canada. Being
a host family is a rewarding experience where you share your values,
traditions and your everyday life at the same time as your family
gets a new perspective on the world around the kitchen table.
The year you spend as a host family often leads to strong ties
of friendship that last a lifetime.
STS has arrivals at the end of August and the end of January
where foreign exchange students stay for one or two semesters.
Youth come here to learn about our culture and how we live, to
go to a Canadian school, and learn our language.
Becoming a host family means you will take part in a unique experience
that will make you look at your own life from a new perspective.
Your family will become the hub for a boy or girl who is a long
way from home. There is no typical host family but every family
invites the student into their home, provides room and board and
a warm family togetherness. STS arranges for a suitable school
spot and contact person for the student and host family in your
local vicinity. This area representative provides support by answering
questions and resolving any problems.
You choose which student you want to share your home with as
well as the length of time (one semester or a full school year).
If you prefer, you can start with a 5-month trial period and be
what is referred to as a “welcome family” then extend to one year
should you so choose. Being a host family is a great way to prepare
your child for their high school exchange abroad or to serve as
an alternative to going.
